Link2Opportunity is an initiative connecting interested young people, women and Indigenous Australians to jobs in mining.
The mining sector provides employment for thousands of Australians. But the make up of its workforce doesn’t necessarily reflect our diverse society.
For example:
Just 16.2% of full-time mining sector workers are female, compared to 46.9% of women working full-time across all industries.At the time of the 2016 Census, 3.8% of workers in the mining industry identified as Indigenous, higher than the share for all industries (1.7%) but still low.As at November 2017, 6.4% of workers in mining were aged 15-24 years, lower compared with the figure for all industries (15.2%).
